Abstract
In patients with panic disorder, an anxiety disorder, isoproterenol increases beat-to-beat
QRS amplitude variability much more than in normal controls. In this pilot study,
we found that patients with panic disorder had significantly higher beat-to-beat QRS
amplitude variability compared to controls in resting supine and standing postures.
This may be partly due to myocardial electrical instability or irregular respiration
in this patient group. These findings are important in view of the association between
panic disorder and increased cardiovascular mortality.
